Even when economists ran around like Chicken Little, yelling "Capitalism is Dead", shops kept selling, buyers kept buying, and trade keeps trading.
People seeking to meet needs and wants in a limited world with scarce resources will always find ways to come together and trade — this is a basic tenet of civilization.
Even when Occupy Everywhere takes to the streets, demanding government intervention in every level of government, calling for massive debt forgiveness for student loans, and a mandatory minimum wage — all hostile the fundamental principles of capitalism, merchants still find a way to make a buck, even if the crowd despises what they are doing.
How ironic that a movement predicated on transforming government is now soliciting the same for patents protecting logos and slogans representing the "99%". In protesting corporate greed, the protesters have solicited lawyers to protect their own claims to make money.
Perhaps "ironic" is not the best word. "Hypocritical" or "ludicrous" is more fitting.
