Ban on controversial LGBTQ therapy sent to Baker’s desk

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts lawmakers have sent Gov. Charlie Baker a bill banning LGBTQ conversion therapy, which critics decry as a harmful and medically-discredited attempt to change a person’s sexual identity.Â
The measure passed the House and Senate by overwhelming margins in votes last week and received final enactment in both chambers on Thursday.
Baker, a Republican, has said he is leaning toward signing the bill.
The conservative Massachusetts Family Institute has threatened to challenge the conversion therapy ban in court if it becomes law.

Stress the following talking points.
- The legislation is unconstitutional, and it will get struck down. Mention these two court cases:Vazzo v. Tampaand NIFLA v. Becerra
- This legislation will KILL CHILDREN. The LGBT Practices (which parents want to free their children from) will kill these children. They need and deserve the right to therapy which will save their lives.
- This legislation is a gross violation of parental rights. Parents have every right and need to choose a therapy to help their children break free of destructive homosexual-transgender behaviors.
- The whole set of arguments against reparative therapy is based on junk science and lies. There is no physical abuse involved. It’s a cognitive-emotional therapy which has saved countless lives.
