Conservative revolution is starting in suburban Los Angeles school district – where school officials seem ready to make big changes
Norwalk-La Mirada District Superintendent and School Board Chairman meet with MassResistance activists to begin the process
Challenges ahead, but parents are determined to make it happen

It’s beginning to happen in California: In a recent post, we described how there needs to be a revolution – now – in every school district because of the terrible state of public education.
Families have had enough and are leaving the public schools
Like many school districts across California, the Norwalk-La Mirada (NLM) district in suburban Los Angeles is in trouble. Large numbers of families are taking their children out of the public schools, moving to either private schools, Catholic schools, or home-schooling.
The district is largely minority families who want their children to succeed. These parents want solid, traditional academic subjects emphasized. And they have had enough of the radical indoctrination, sexual perversions, Marxism, and other destructive materials being pushed. It has gotten so bad that even some teachers are leaving.
As a result, the NLM system is facing a money crisis. In California, school systems are funded by the number of attending students. Recently, Norwalk-La Mirada announced that it is closing a popular specialized high school. At a recent school board meeting, a French teacher complained that he and other language teachers have nearly empty classrooms because so many students have left. Layoffs are on the horizon.
Officials getting the message
Slowly, the school board has been getting the message. For over a year, a large group of minority parents organized by MassResistance demanded an end to an outrageous “wellbeing center” which dispensed “mental health” counseling and a wide range of birth control and abortion materials at one of the high schools. Last June, the school board did not renew its contract, effectively shutting it down.

Then in November, MassResistance parents helped elect a local conservative parent activist to the school board, tipping it to a 4-3 conservative majority. That sent a very strong message.
The parents are very public about what they want: The goal is a complete and revolutionary change in the schools – to make them places where parents want to send their children and where teachers want to teach. They want super-charged academics and removal of all radicalism and sexual outreach.
Parents have meeting with top school officials
In January, MassResistance asked the newly hired NLM Superintendent to meet with parents to talk about this goal. She seemed very interested in our ideas and arranged a meeting.
On February 13, the meeting took place in the district school board meeting room. The top school officials were clearly interested in this. Besides the Superintendent, the School Board Chairman, the newly elected conservative School Board member, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Public Information Officer were all there. They met with eight MassResistance parents. Arthur Schaper, our national field director who lives nearby, also attended.

The eight parents stressed that they care about all the children in the community, not just their own. The parents were particularly vocal about the conditions that drive families out of the system, and which led to their demands for change.
These are some of the points the parents emphasized at the meeting:
- There were several concerns about the poor quality of education being provided. One parent bluntly asked, “Why should we send our children to school if they aren’t learning anything?”
- All the parents agreed that exposure to obscene materials hurts the minds and souls of children. There is a growing number of children who are having psychological problems because of their exposure to destructive sexual orientation/gender identity perversion and other sexual degeneracy in the schools. (This material is in curriculum units, reading assignments, and library books. It also includes LGBTQ events, GSA club activities, and policies about “gender identity.”) “Why is this in the schools at all?” they asked.
- One woman shared a personal experience of a child coming home from school confused about whether he is a boy or a girl. Another parent shared growing concerns about boys in girls’ spaces and sports.
- The parents want the school district to follow, not ignore, President Trump’s executive orders requiring the removal of DEI, gender indoctrination, and related issues.
Overall, the parents were resolute that these concerns are not just “suggestions.” Massive changes need to take place.
It was a good meeting. Unlike past experiences that parents have had, this time all the school officials seemed genuinely interested in the ideas of the community. And there was a strong sense that they agreed with our viewpoint.
Actually making all this happen is a big challenge. Exactly how will it be done? That wasn’t discussed. But it will certainly be the subject of an imminent upcoming meeting!
Final thoughts
One issue the board members were clear about is that they cannot do something like this by themselves. This effort would need to have a huge and very vocal backing from parents in the community. That’s because the local leftists, unions, special interests, and radical staff have never cared about what’s ultimately best for children. Those groups are obsessed and guard their agendas from any disruption.
By getting their school officials in the NLM district on board, the parents are halfway there. Now the battle begins for the other half!
