Following te 1950 census, California gained seven more Congressional seats.

Republicans held the majority of seats in the California delegation: 20 vs. 10 for the Democrats.

Torrance still remained entirely in one district.

For the third time, Torrance would remain within the 17th Congressional District, but its edges were gut down further still, cresting at the Playa Del Rey region and then jutting to the east into an apex covering Compton and taking in Catalina Island and San Clemente Island, too.

Election 1952:
King actually received a challenger this time.
A Republican stepped up and eventually earned more than 40% of the vote, too.
Election 1954
Robert Finch sought a rematch against King in an off-year election, which should have helped him, especially with the wildly popular and success President Dwight D. Eisenhower at the top of the ticket.
King actually defeated Finch by a wider margin.
For the remaining three elections in the decade, King would meet opposition, but they never rose above 35% in the final general election results:
