Polygamy is more common in America than you might think. Congress is about to make it even more so, if Sen. Schumer (D-NY) gets his way and passes HR 8404, the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act.”
On Wednesday during a press conference, Schumer said, "But let me be clear, a vote will happen.” He stressed again a vote will happen “on the Senate floor in the coming weeks … ”
The U.S. Senate floor is open for votes next week. Schumer is fixated on passing HR 8404.
On the same day, Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Susan Collins (R-ME) said they are working to get more Republican votes and will propose an amendment to correct a “drafting error in one part of the bill” that Republicans fear will open the door to polygamy. This was no drafting error.
In addition to same-sex marriage, HR 8404 forces every state to legally recognize the worst marriage laws of any other state—including laws that allow child bride, pedophile and incestuous “marriages.”
Today, we will hear from some of the victims of polygamy. But first, please take a stand for these brave young women who escaped a lifetime of sexual servitude to decades-older men with apparently unbridled sexual appetites. Please help them by demanding Congress VOTE NO on HR 8404. — Mat

Arthur,
There are an estimated 50,000-100,000 polygamous families in the U.S., and the popularity of polygamy is growing, thanks to a series of cable television shows that attempt to glorify the practice.
But those cable TV shows rarely, if ever, reveal the abuse and desperation suffered by the young girls forced to marry into polygamous “families.”
Allegations of sexual abuse, pedophilia and incest are rampant in polygamist families and the colonies they have formed in the U.S.
There are four Republican votes for HR 8404. Six more are needed to overcome the filibuster. And about 16 Republican senators have not publicly stated their position on HR 8404. The senators MUST hear from you!
These young women need YOUR help! Tell Congress to VOTE NO on HR 8404!
"This is organized crime operating under the cover of religion," says 36-year-old Laura Chapman, who escaped a polygamist sect several years ago. Laura now helps other girls escape their polygamist marriages to pedophile husbands.
Young girls are forced to marry as soon as possible, often to grown men already related to them. Once married, the girls are trapped.
Mary Ann Kingston was one of those girls. Her father had forced her to marry her uncle, who promptly raped Mary Ann in her mother’s own house. Mary Ann was her uncle’s 15th wife.
Mary Ann tried to flee, but she was quickly caught in the tiny insular community. Her father brought her out to the barn and horsewhipped her for her attempted escape.
Mary Ann was promptly moved into a tiny apartment next to her uncle’s other wives so they could keep her in check. But somewhere deep down, she knew what was happening to her was very, very wrong.
After one particularly bad beating, Mary Ann fled on foot, with only the clothes on her back. Beaten and bloody, she called 911 from a truck stop a few miles from her prison.
Thank God, Mary Ann was rescued. But far too many young girls are not, and many more will be trapped in polygamy and child-bride “marriages,” unable to escape the pedophiles to whom they have been contracted.
If the so-called “Respect for Marriage Act” becomes law, it has a loophole that will open the door to legalize polygamy.
This bill will further trap people like Mary Ann under even greater bondage!
I need your help to hold senators accountable and stop HR 8404. Rush urgent faxes to the Senate to STOP HR 8404.
The bill applies to “marriage between 2 individuals.” The number should at least be written out as “two” or in more formal legislation as both, “two (2).” And the word “only” is not in the text—“only between” two people.
The bill clearly overrides state marriage laws, including age limits, by allowing one state to set marriage law for the nation. Under HR 8404, a man can deceptively marry women in more than one state, and then use the bill to require one state to recognize the other marriage, and thus override state and federal polygamy laws. Utah no longer criminalizes polygamy. The fine is now about equivalent to a traffic ticket.
Some senators simply view this bill as codifying same-sex marriage, which is bad enough. However, HR 8404 has many far-reaching implications, including pedophile marriage, same-sex, child-bride, incest, polygamy and any other perversion of marriage.
Liberty Counsel is fighting for religious freedom every day in the halls of Congress as well as in state and federal courtrooms around the nation. This year alone, we have won all the cases we argued or briefed before the U.S. Supreme Court … and we aren’t done yet!
Currently, Liberty Counsel is defending members of the U.S. military, as well as health care workers, employees and students against unlawful shot mandates. We continue to defend Christian counselors persecuted by politicians for daring to counsel people seeking to overcome unwanted same-sex attractions, behaviors or gender confusion.
Our multi-year defense of Sandra Merritt, the brave whistleblower being prosecuted for exposing Planned Parenthood’s “baby parts for sale” scheme, continues, as does work on many other cases. And we are filing multiple briefs in the state courts defending life.
We need YOUR help to continue this winning streak for the Lord! Please, prayerfully consider making a recurring monthly donation to fund this legal battle for religious freedom. Every donation made today will be DOUBLED IN IMPACT by a Challenge Grant. Please, give generously.
Pray for our children and fight for them!
