Success! Thanking Torrance City Council – OFFICIALLY OPPOSED SB 54 Torrance, CA 7/11/17 Report by Robin Hvidston
Before the Torrance City Council meeting, a Citizen Lobby visit was organized at the nearby Democrat Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi's district office to demand a no vote on the Sanctuary State Bill. https://a66.asmdc.org/news
In May, Arthur Schaper and Joseph Turner both called upon their City of Torrance to oppose the Sanctuary State bill, SB 54. The City of Torrance submitted an official letter of opposition and have been entered into the record of the bill as official opposition. Read the letter at the end of this email.
There were 13 speakers during the Torrance City Council meeting public comment segment who spoke out in support of the city's stance opposing SB 54, including candidate for lieutenant governor David Hernandez and candidate for the 39th assembly district Ricardo Benitiz. Elsa Aldaguer spoke on behalf of Make California Great Again. There was not enough time during the first public comment segment at the beginning of the meeting for all who had signed up to speak. Chanell Temple and several members of the Beach Cities Republican Club were slated to speak at the second public comment segment but chose to leave the meeting after the first public comment segment.
A handful of pro illegal opposition also showed up. Only 1 of their members spoke out in support of SB 54.
Below are the videos of 5 of the public comment speakers.

NOTE: After the first public comment segment, the two opposing sides on the issue of the Sanctuary State bil conducted interviews for Spanish TV and then loudly debated each other in front of the city hall. Police were called on scene. However, many who had spoken during the meeting, such as Vaughn Becht, David Hernandez, Ricardo Benitez and Robin Hvidston vacated the premises directly after the public comment segment.
SB 54 will be scheduled for one more assembly committee hearing then will go for a full assembly floor vote, followed by submission to the governor for signature.
“…Catholic Charities gets billions of taxpayer dollars for refugee resettlement and general immigration services, which puts it into the category of a smallish government agency. For example, in 2010, 62 percent of Catholic Charities’ budget was funded by the unwilling taxpayer. The feds and the Catholic bishops are partners.”
Every congress member is given an annual budget to cover staff salaries, travel to and from the home district, official mail to constituents and other office necessities. The budgets vary. The average budget for 2011 was $1.45 million. USA Today http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/washington/story/2012-04-05/house-office-expenses-cutbacks/54056520/1Updated 4/6/2012 8:36
