Three Huntington Park residents and myself attended the Military Workshop hosted by Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard.

In office since 1992, The Year of the Woman according to desperate Democrats keen on divisive identity politics, Roybal-Allard has been Missing in Action to many Southeastern Los Angeles County residents.

I must admit. I do not recall her holding the leadership in Bell, California accountable for their rampant rapaciousness with city fund, including outrageous taxes and fees to buffet city council and staff's large salaries and pensions. Those pigs got fat, and then got slaughtered.

The crime and rampant corruption throughout the Southeastern corridor should invite more investigations and demands for justice and the rule of law.

Yet nothing yet.

Betty Retama and I spoke with the Congresswoman at Downey City Library yesterday morning. In spite of the threatening tone from the first staffer I had spoken to the day before.

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard

She actually gave us time before her speech at the Military workshop.

I spoke with her about my concerns relating to the appointment of two illegal aliens to city commissions in Huntington Park. Right away, she told me that this issue was a local problem, and that there was nothing that she could do about it. This comment was particularly strange, since she spoke to local leaders about the sudden spike of homicides in South Los Angeles this past summer. Surely those murders are "local issues", yet she felt compelled to get involved. Why won't she confront the Huntington Park City Council and demand that they start doing their job?

Then she asked point blank: "What do you want me to do about it?"

I told her that she needs to get the city council to do their job.

I mentioned that there is a lack of enforcement in the city, then I mentioned the phone calls I had made to ICE, and that they had directed me to speak to my Congressman (Ted Lieu) and the representatives for Huntington Park.

I also mentioned one of her liberal colleagues, David Cicilline of Rhode Island, who as mayor of Providence enforced a non-compliance policy among the city's law enforcement with ICE. One woman, a friend of Center for Immigration Studies scholar Jessica Vaughn, was car-jacked and brutally raped by an illegal alien and repeat felon.

It is very much a federal issue as well as a local matter.

Roybal-Allard then explained that many of the illegal aliens in the country actually have not committed a crime, because they were brought into this country as children and had no say in the matter. I countered that President Obama's executive amnesty all but announced to every corner of the world that the United States had an open border and would take any and all immigrants who surrendered themselves at our border.

Finally, the Congresswoman responded: "If the city council and these undocumented immigrants were committing a crime, then ICE would have shown up right now and taken them away."

Exactly – this whole malfeasant immigrant mess falls back on the lack of enforcement.

Kim Kachimi-Chin, the field director for the event, then ushered the Congresswoman away, on account of the military workshop. For the first fifteen minutes of the meeting, a color guard led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance, one of the Downey City Council members introduced the Congresswoman, and then Roybal-Allard explained the purpose of the workshop: to give young constituents a chance to see if they are interested in attending a military academy, and the benefits of earning a degree in one of the five prestigious institutions showcased at the event.

Roybal-Allard's most telling remarks reminded me of the important role I played attending the workshop to speak with the Congresswoman:

"Don't fall into the trap of thinking that your vote doesn't matter. You are our employers. You can hire us. And you can fire us."

The Congresswoman felt a little more of  that pressure on Saturday, and she needs to know that more residents in Huntington Park and throughout Southeastern Los Angeles County have had enough of corrupt local officials serving illegal aliens instead of legal residents. If she refuses to uphold the Constitution and enforce the rule of law in her district, then she should be fired.
