If indeed Head Coach Joe Paterno failed to take the proper steps to stop the abuse of children by one of his staff, then he deserved to be terminated without notice by Penn State.

"This is a tragedy," Paterno said in the statement. "It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."

Let this be a move that emboldens victims everywhere. No matter how powerful a man, he is still accountable for failing to take necessary steps to protect the most vulnerable among us.

The media has stirred up a mad craze by many, yet the rule of law must remain undisturbed. The court of public opinion is no place to try a man, no matter how egregious the crime.

Still, the ongoing allegations of this matter suggest one must exert due diligence in prosecuting this case and holding all culprits accountable for their actions or their failure to act in the best interests of the young.
