ACTION ALERT – CALIFORNIANS—join the resistance to Sacramento’s sanctuary state policies! Call your local officials.Communities in California are resisting Sacramento’s efforts to offer sanctuary to criminal aliens. To date:· Orange County supervisors voted to join the federal lawsuit against California’s sanctuary state legislation that prohibits law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration-enforcement officers. · Shasta County officials approved a resolution to declare that the county complies with federal immigration laws and is not a sanctuary county.· Los Alamitos council members passed a measure to exempt the city from SB 54, and instead to “honor our oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.”· Barred by California from honoring detainer requests from ICE, the Orange County sheriff’s department announced it would publish an online database of the time of release of all inmates. The sheriff’s office said the action was “a response to SB 54 limiting our ability to communicate with federal authorities and our concern that criminals are being released to the street when there’s another avenue to safeguard the community by handing them over.”
Call or email your local officials and ask them to join the resistance to a sanctuary state. Counties and cities generally have websites that provide contact information for supervisors and council members. There are at least a couple of actions that local governments can take: – Pass a resolution opposing SB 54 and stating that local officials must comply with federal law. – Join the federal lawsuit against California or file a friend of the court brief—a relatively inexpensive option—in support of the suit.
Contact your county supervisors and city council members to oppose sanctuary policies and to protect your community. Be sure to thank those officials who are supportive!
