Obama's deferred action, or non-enforcement, will only benefit those illegal
immigrants who are in school or who have a high school diploma or a GED.
That will do nothing for those migrant workers who put on more ten or more
hours a day on our nation's farms. These youth cannot opt into this deferral.
When will the voters in this country recognize once and for all that
President Obama promulgated this reprieve chiefly for political gain? He and
his executive staff did not reflect on the unintended consequence of this
half-formed amnesty, which has created strain on federal processing agencies
while depleting an already under-funded, depleted bureaucracy.
A growing number of illegal immigrants will take advantage of the growing
disingenuous relaxing of this nation's immigration laws, bringing in their wake
more youth, who will labor in menial jobs for the greater part of every day
throughout their young lives, who will not enroll in school, who will have few
skills and fewer options for improving their status in this country.
Policy moves based on the feeling of the moment, based on compassion instead
of a conservative legacy will ever more harm the very people who claim to
benefit from these executive orders.
