Mr. Zweifel contends that Tea Party patriots, their supporters, and allied enthusiasts are extremists.

The Capital Times editor emeritus identified that the movement has received a number of letters to the editor recognizing their values and encouraging their vocal opposition to Washington D.C. business as usual tax and spend statist. Because of these letters of support, the editor then submits that these Tea Party advocates are blind in their extremism.

Zweifel’s “Plain Talk” is plainly biased, and painfully misguided. That the Capital Times Opinion writer maligns the Tea Party movement while identifying them portrays an unsettling, skewed opinion of the movement’s origins and intentions.

First of all, Chuck Todd of MSNBC respected that the movement has many elements : from all political parties and ethnic backgrounds.

Former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw spoke highly of the Tea Party Movement on a recent guest interview on “The Late Show with David Letterman.” While critics have derided the Tea Party as maniacal, Brokaw recognized a cogent, coherent movement which has stayed on message.

Nevertheless, Zweifel argues that the political organization is extreme and extremely ignorant of their purportedly marginal views. The fact that there have been several letters to the editor vouching for their efforts would suggest that the Tea Party movement is either not marginal to begin with, or that the individuals and grassroots interest groups allied with the Tea Party movement are aware of their views yet recognize that their stance on issues is currently not popular with the country.
