On the day Christians around the world celebrate Good Friday, Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas halted the U.S. Federal Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the abortion pill, mifepristone, contingent on a seven day appeal period.  The judge’s ruling in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration is a huge victory that is sending shockwaves across the country.

Friday’s decision will help protect the health and safety of thousands of women and girls around the country and prevent the FDA from fast-tracking approval of the dangerous abortion drugs for sale by mail-order, without any in-person examination by a doctor, which has proven to have a myriad of harmful side effects for women, including death.

What has been a concerning trend in abortion is the increasing number of “chemical” abortions in the U.S. in recent years, turning home bathrooms into abortion clinics.  Of course, this is the abortion industry’s long game – begin to make abortion commonplace and do so by deceiving women and young girls into thinking it’s no different than contraceptives.

However, according to new polling by CRC Research, the American public is not falling for the FDA’s assertion that mifepristone, which can be acquired through the mail, is at all safe.  In fact, the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine recognized that the safety restrictions for the abortion-causing drugs would seriously endanger thousands of women, which is why they sued the FDA.

While we celebrate Judge Kacsmaryk’s ruling, the issue is certainly not settled.  As soon as his ruling was issued, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington issued an order directing the FDA not to alter is regulations related to the abortion drugs.  With two differing court opinions, it is likely this issue could be headed to the U.S. Supreme Court for another critical decision.
